I am Oscar. I work in finance and administration for a UK manufacturing business, and I use this software for a living.
Why I started this
Search for accounting software and the first page is written almost entirely by people with something to sell — the vendors themselves, or accountancy practices hoping you will hire them. The genuinely useful result is usually a forum thread where someone who has used both products says what they think.
Nobody is doing that properly for the UK market, so I am.
What I actually do
Finance and administration for a specialist manufacturing supplier: bookkeeping, procurement, supplier management, reporting. I use Sage 50 Accounts every working day and have built reporting systems that pull live data out of it.
That matters for one specific reason. Sage 50 is widely used and rarely written about by anyone who actually uses it — most comparisons are written from a features page. When I write about it, I am describing software I have spent years in.
I will say what I do not know too. If I have never run payroll for fifty people, or never used a product in a multi-currency business, the relevant page says so.
How I test
- Every product is signed up for and genuinely used before I write about it.
- Testing is done on sample or personal data. Nothing from my employer's systems is ever used here, shown here, or referred to here.
- Each review states how long I used the product and on what kind of work.
- Every review says what I disliked. A review with no downsides is an advert.
- I do not accept payment for coverage or for a positive verdict. If a vendor ever provides an extended trial, the page will say so.
The honest limitation: a few weeks on a trial is not the same as running a business on something for three years. Where that gap matters, the page says so rather than papering over it.
How it is funded

The commission does not decide the verdict. It is also worth saying plainly: if the right answer for your business is the cheaper product, or a spreadsheet, or no software at all, that is what the page will say.
